Tip: Visiting Amsterdam? Go to a trade fair!

Would you like to visit an interesting trade fair during your stay in the Netherlands? If so, Amsterdam is the ideal city for it. The world-famous Amsterdam RAI complex dating from 1961, for example, is one of the most popular and busiest fair and conference centres in the world. But Amsterdam also has numerous other great exhibition centres, such as the Beurs van Berlage, the Westergasfabriek and the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. Here are some of the events being held in 2014:

Souvenir Fair, 5-7 January 2014

It’s a very unusual tourist who goes home from the Netherlands without some typical Dutch souvenirs in his luggage, such as a little windmill, miniature clogs or a mug decorated with tulips. But that’s just a few of the souvenirs available! You’ll find them all at the 60th Souvenir Fair.

Amsterdam Fashion Week, 18-26 January & 5-15 July 2014

Twice a year, the Amsterdam Fashion Week puts the Dutch capital on the map as a buzzing international centre of fashion. With a programme of fashion shows, trade fairs, presentations, talks and parties, this event is the high point of the Dutch fashion business. Also, during the Amsterdam Fashion Week the two-day Fashion Weekend is organised in cooperation with shops, museums and hospitality companies. It is a public event and includes many fashion-related activities, such as exhibitions, workshops and pop-up catwalk shows.

Realism 16-19 January 2014

As you would expect, Amsterdam has a lot to offer in the way of art exhibitions. For example, the Realism Exhibition, in which thirty Dutch and Belgian galleries present modern paintings, sculptures and photographs by young talent and established artists from the Netherlands and beyond.

KunstRAI, 14-19 May 2014

At the KunstRAI, which is the showcase of modern art in the Netherlands, over a hundred galleries will present the latest developments in contemporary art. Moreover, the most renowned art dealers in the Netherlands will be represented here with works from post-1945. There will also be displays of applied art, including jewellery, glass and ceramics.

Tattoo Convention, 30 May - 1 June 2014

And talking about art: the Amsterdam Tattoo Convention is the biggest body art exhibition in the Benelux. Many talented and world-famous tattoo artists will be taking part in this 10th convention, coming from the US, Japan, New Zealand and Europe. Besides tattoos, also body paint, piercings and even suspension will be featured. If you wish, you can even get a tattoo while you’re there! Now if that’s not a souvenir…

HISWA in water, 2-7 September 2014

The HISWA in-water boat show is the most comprehensive show of its kind in Europe. From the jetties, you can admire around 450 luxury sail and motor yachts, sport boats and sloops with a minimum length of 7 metres. Again in 2014, there will be many Dutch, European and global unveilings to see during this show.

Unseen Photography Fair, 25-29 Septe,ber 2014

For lovers of contemporary photography, the first edition of the international photography exhibition Unseen is a must. Unseen promises to be a meeting place where young talent as well as established photographers show their latest work, where gallery holders come to discover the latest trends and where an international audience can enjoy stunning photographs.

Affordable Art Fair, 30 October - 2 November 2014

After eight successful editions in London, New York, Sydney and Melbourne, the Affordable Art Fair is coming to Amsterdam. In a relaxed atmosphere, over sixty galleries from the Netherlands and beyond will display a huge range of paintings, graphics, photographs and sculptures. Novice buyers can purchase original art works at the AAF for prices ranging from € 100 to € 5,000, while experienced collectors can discover promising new artists.

Masters of LXRY, 11-14 December 2014
